About the Recipe
Is there a more popular Japanese dish than Teriyaki Chicken? There'a a reason it's so popular - it's quick to prepare and absolutely yummy to eat! This recipe shows you how to make your own teriyaki sauce (so much tastier than what you can buy in a bottle) and produce a truly delicous Japanese chicken meal.
Ingredients
2 chicken breasts
1.5 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp mirin
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp Japanese cooking sake (or white wine)
2 tbsp plain flour
1 tbsp vegetable oil
to be served with a green salad and rice
Preparation
first, to make the teriyaki sauce. put the sugar, mirin, cooking sake and soy sauce in a bowl. mix well and then and set aside
cut the chicken breasts laterally into two thin fillets
lightly coat the chicken with the flour. this will help the meat keep some moisture while it is cooking
heat the oil in a medium frying pan. fry the chicken fillets for 2 minutes until lightly golden, then turn and fry a further 2 minutes with a lid on the pan
next, pour the teriyaki sauce into the frying pan. continue to cook until the sauce has reduced by about half (this should take 3 - 4 minutes.) turn the fillets every minute or so during this time
once your filltes are ready, turn out onto serving plates and spoon the teriyaki sauce over the top. enjoy with a green salad and rice
