Fried Tofu with simmered Turnip

About the Recipe

If you don't have the time or the inclination to fry your own tofu, you'll be pleased to know that you can buy fried tofu in packs from Asian stores and online. Pairing the tofu with turnip and some sugar snaps gives you a nutricious low calorie dish that you can eat on the side or as a virtuous lunch or supper with a bowl of rice.

Ingredients

300g turnip


1 tsp japanese dashi granules


1 tbsp soy sauce


2 tbsp mirin


1/2 salt


12 pieces fried tofu*


10 sugar snaps


* ready made fried tofu is available from Asian stores and online

Preparation

peel & quarter the turnip.  then cut each quarter into 4 segments


put the water, dashi granules, soy sauce & mirin in a frying pan and mix together until the granules have dissolved


next,  add the turnip & fried tofu. put a small lid  in the pan so that the lid is in contact with the turnip and tofu, then bring to the boil and simmer for 8 mins


add the sugar snaps and simmer for a further 1-2 mins


your dish is ready to serve
