Marugame Udon, London E1 - a review
Marugame Udon Ah, what a joy to wander around on a sunny Sunday morning in streets full of people out having a good time - good riddance to coronavirus and lockdown - let's hope that's permanent! I rarely venture into the City - the financial centre of London - but as I wanted to try out one of the Marugame Udon branches recently opened in London, we took the train to Moorgate and then took a leisurely 10 minute stroll to Middlesex Street in the Spitalfields district to Middl

Chisou Japanese Sushi and Izakaya, London W1..a Review
Chisou Japanese Sushi and Izakaya I celebrated my wedding anniversary recently, so my partner and I visited Chisou Japanese Sushi and Izakaya in Mayfair for a lunchtime bite out. Chisou advertised itself as a sushi bar and izakaya (which roughly translates as a Japanese style pub). Chisou is part of the Saga Restaurant Group, which operates 2 restaurants, the Mayfair branch and one in Knightsbridge. The company also operates Sushi Atelier in Fitzrovia and the bento delivery

Fish Finger Musubi
Fish Finger Musubi Here's my latest easy fusion creation. Fish Finger Musubi. I think I can safely claim to this dish being a Kurumicooks original - I haven't seen it anywhere else and it was just one of those serendipitious occasions when I found some fish fingers in the back of the freezer and wonder what to do with them for a quick lunch - eh, viola! The Fish Finger Musubi was born! If you know your Japanese, you'll know that a "musubi" translates as a "rice ball". Musubi

OKAN Okonomiyaki, South Bank SE1..a review
Okan A little while ago, I posted a review of what used to be London's sole okonomiyaki specialist restaurant; Abeno in Bloomsbury. Personally speaking, I loved Abeno: the food was excellent, the service faultless and the value for money 100% spot on. But Abeno is no longer London's only okonomiyaki restaurant, now there is OKAN (which in local Osakan dialect means "mum".) I'm not sure exactly how long OKAN has been open but the first outlet started in Brixton Village and

Kanada-ya ramen shop, London WC2..a review
Kanada-ya My latest "taste and see" review took me to St. Giles, WC2. St Giles is a little area hemmed in by Soho to the West, Bloomsbury to the North and Covent Garden to the South. St Giles itself is a bit of a hodge podge and compared to the illustrious areas that surround it, you could be forgiven for thinking that it lacks any identity. Fortunately, the same cannot be said of Kanada-ya. This ramen shop specialises in the southern Japanese speciality Tonkotsu ramen. The
